More than having a mission, our archdiocese is a mission.

God sends his Son to get his world back. The Son sends his church to do the same. That church has put our archdiocese here to fulfill that call and be agents of transformation for 40,000 square miles of northern Colorado until he returns.

How do we “stir into flame” a culture focused on mission and making disciples in the Archdiocese of Denver, all the while navigating the “change of ages,” to use Pope Francis’ term, from a Christendom context to one of apostolic mission?

We are convicted that, right now, the call for all of us is two-fold:

  • Pray and fast
  • Re-ground ourselves in a biblical worldview by encountering the Gospel message anew

Beginning on Ash Wednesday, join Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and the entire archdiocese in praying a 54-day Rosary novena for a renewal of mission in the Archdiocese of Denver, ending on Divine Mercy Sunday (April 11).

Archbishop Aquila’s recent pastoral note explains why the renewal of mission is so important, and how you can participate.

Pastors have also been encouraged to lead their parishes in this Prayer for Renewal, available In English and Español, from Ash Wednesday until Pentecost.

We are convicted that any missional effort begins in intercessory prayer and in re-grounding ourselves in a biblical worldview through hearing the kerygma proclaimed. This Lent, we are inviting small groups (in-person or via Zoom), families, and individuals to go through The Search, a highly produced telling of that basic Gospel message.

“When social arrangements and the Church’s influence on the societies she inhabits are relatively stable, relations and strategies may hold good over a long period of time. In an age of change, the Church needs to pay attention to the modes by which she carries on her graced battle to be sure she is not ‘fighting yesterday’s war,’ using strategies that for whatever reason are outmoded and have become ineffective. In a time that could be called a change of the ages, this duty becomes urgent. We are currently living in such a time.”
